Countryfile Feature Stoney Middleton’s Roman Bath House
It was a proud day for Stoney Middleton when one of the most popular BBC programmes Countryfile visited the village. The programme has been running for 25 years and has over 8 million viewers.
The programme showcases the most important aspects of Britain’s beautiful countryside, its wildlife and heritage assets, their decision to feature Stoney Middleton’s Bath House is testimony to the importance of this village asset.
BBC researchers contacted the village heritage group (SMHCCG) via their website undertaking initial research. SMHCCG worked closely with the Parish Council to organise an evaluation visit with their researcher and director which proved very successful, due in part to representations from various villagers who had attended to provide important facts and information. Not to mention enthusiasm, thanks to all who attended.
Further research was undertaken to ensure the programme was as factually correct as possible.
The village organised a clean-up day which was very well attended by more than 20 people who worked tirelessly on a Sunday morning to spruce up the area.
Their efforts are testimony to the importance of a community spirit and demonstrate the pride felt within the village for its important assets, thanks to them all.
