The Longden family – last residents of Farnsley Farm

Farnsley Farm

The Londen family were the last occupants of Farnsley Farm, which was located on Farnsley Lane (halfway up on the right hand side). Farnsley Lane can be found by heading out of the village towards Tideswell, approximately 1 mile past the turning from Eyam on the left hand side. The farm was very remote and basic, without electricity or running water. They talk about the farm and lifeĀ in general for a tenant farmerĀ and their family.

    Dear Mr Hall
I came across your recordings while researching the Longden family in Tideswell. I am the great granddaughter of Margaret Parke, whose father was John Latimer Parke, a doctor in Tideswell I understand, who married Jane Longden in 1854. My paperwork line of Longdens ends in 1895 and so I was wondering whether the family you recorded might be able to help fill in the family gaps. If you are able to put me in contact with them I would be most grateful.

Hi, Penny. I have just come across your note here about being a descendant of the lLongden family. And you mention John Latimer Parke. My husband and I moved to Tideswell in 2017…into Foxlowe House, Dr Parke’s old home. Sadly I know no more about the family history than is in any book…we are not local people prior to moving here. But you are very welcome to visit Foxlowe House if ever in this area.
